Advanced Orthopedic Stem Cell Therapy
OrthoXcell was founded by highly reputable U.S. orthopedic surgeons and stem cell researchers to provide a validated and verified source of an advanced stem cell therapy for the treatment of orthopedic conditions
Why
Because advanced orthopedic stem cell therapy, using highly potent umbilical cord cells, should be made available to patients through scientifically verified, and validated processes
WHY
Advanced stem cell therapy has great potential in orthopedics for improving the performance and quality of life for patients. While this therapy is not yet available in the United States, there are a variety of clinics outside of the United States offering many types of biological therapies. However, the only information for patients and physicians about these clinics is what is published in marketing materials, which is why many doctors in the remain sceptical of these clinics.
At OrthoXcell, our surgeons and researchers have scientifically vetted and verified our affiliated orthopaedic clinic and stem cell laboratory in Medellín, Colombia, to ensure that patients and doctors know that their treatment, from the source of stem cells, laboratory processes, and orthopedic professionals meet the highest scientific standards.
Importantly, as part of our commitment to ongoing advances in orthopedic stem cell therapy, OrthoXcell will require all patients participating in our program to complete validated patient reported outcome (PROs) questionnaires at scheduled time intervals following treatment as a means of objectively assessing the effectiveness of their treatment. Patients will be seen by their U.S. orthopedic surgeon, in partnership with OrthoXcell, for a period of up to two years.
How
OrthoXcell was created as a collaboration between highly respected and recognized orthopedic surgeons and scientists in the United States, and the best orthopedic surgeons and stem cell laboratory in Medellín Colombia
How
A yearlong careful review, validation, and vetting of orthopedic surgeons and stem cell laboratories, OrthoXcell has assembled a prestigious team of stem cell laboratory and orthopedic surgeons in Medellín, Colombia. As patients and their doctors evaluate the options of advanced stem cell therapy for their condition, OrthoXcell is the only company squarely focused on the advancement of orthopedic stem cell therapy guided by recognized and trusted orthopedic surgeons and researchers in the United States. Through our end-to-end patient care process, individuals and their doctors can be confident that they will receive the best available treatment and white glove service throughout the process.
What
We provide clients and their orthopedic surgeons a trusted pathway to access advanced stem cell therapy for orthopedic conditions. Clients receive a concierge experience from start to finish so that they have full confidence that they are receiving the highest quality care and outcome measurement
What
As a patient, you have probably already learned about the potential of stem cell therapy and the availability of advanced stem cell therapy in clinics outside the United States. Until now, for most patients, the process of deciding to undertake advanced stem cell therapy for an orthopedic condition outside of the United States has its challenges, since up until now the programs have not been reviewed and approved by recognized by stem cell orthopedic surgeons and researchers in the United States.
At OrthoXcell we believe the proper treatment begins at home with a thorough examination of your orthopedic condition by your orthopedic surgeon, or an orthopedic surgeon affiliated with OrthoXcell. This ensures that the patient is a good candidate for stem cell therapy.
Once the patient decides to move forward with advanced, stem cell therapy, OrthoXcell delivers a white glove service for the patient to travel to our clinic in Medellín, Colombia, where an English-speaking medical concierge will be waiting for them at the airport and be with them and guide them through every step of the process.
Once the patient returns home, OrthoXcell will follow-up on the success of treatment by sending out a scientifically valid questionnaire at pre-determined time intervals to objectively measure the patient reported outcome score. In addition, our research team will make sure that our patients are evaluated by Dr. Álvarez for a period of two years.
What Are MSCs
Advanced Stem Cell Therapy for Orthopedics
OrthoXcell was founded on a basic premise. Advanced stem cell therapy is a new and exciting treatment for a variety of conditions. The path to excellence in medicine is defined by specialization, validation, research, and measurement outcomes to ensure the highest quality of care.
Advanced stem cell therapy is not available in the United States and, consequently, OrthoXcell is dedicated to working with individuals and orthopedic surgeons to provide a peer reviewed process to access the highest quality orthopedic stem cell therapy outside of the United States, while measuring patient results and outcomes in a scientific method.
What are stem cells, what is the source, and how do we isolate and process them?
The first stem cells tested in orthopedic conditions were isolated from bone marrow by the late Dr. Arnold Kaplan, PhD who coined the terms mesenchymal stem cells or mesenchymal stromal cells and abbreviated them as MSCs. He also described a mesengenic process where MSCs could develop along different tissue lineages. He is widely recognized as the father of both basic science and clinical therapeutics of adult MSCs. He initially described a “mesengenic process” whereby MSCs could develop along different tissue lineages and it was originally thought that this was the primary way MSCs achieved their therapeutic effects.
He later made the brilliant discovery that MSCs exerted many of their regenerative effects by secreting trophic factors and thereby exhibited regenerative properties remotely including modulation of the immune system inhibiting both programmed cell death and scar formation, stimulating blood-vessel formation and promoting the growth of tissue-specific stem cells. These discoveries caused him to rename MSCs as “Medicinal Signaling Cells”. This term better summarizes the therapeutic effects of the MSCs that we inject into joints.

Testimonials
I highly recommend OrthoXcell. A key factor in my decision to choose OrthoXcell was the upfront review of my MRI by a US based Orthopedic surgeon who followed up with a telephone consultation to discuss the injury and to determine if the orthopedic conditon that I was dealing with could in fact benefit from stem cells. With OrthoXcell, I was being guided by medical professionals throughout the whole decision process, in contrast to other companies that were basically marketers incented to “close the sale” vs determining the appropriateness of stem cells for my specific medical issue.
